The racing-two-seater EB29DElektro
Among our clients arose the idea of a self launching glider with electric(E)-engine which ideally would combine the performance of the EB29 with a seat for a Co-pilot.
Based on the single seater EB29 we stretched the fuselage in the cockpit area by only 25cm and increased the width by a few centimeters to generate the room for a Co-pilot. In addition we redesigned the complete control mechanism in the cockpit area in order to assure comfortable seating positions for the pilots in this very slim and elegant fuselage together with an ergonomic cockpit layout.
The result is the EB29D, a self launching racing-two-seater. Finally the conventional Solo engine was replaced with the newly developed and powerful Emrax E-engine. So the EB29 was transformed into the racing-two-seater EB 29DElektro with E-engine which truly defines a new benchmark.
The Emrax E-engine made by Enstroj and the AC inverter made by Piktronik are water cooled.
For the battery system latest generation Panasonic Litium-Ion-Accumulators were used and placed in the wings.
The engine- and accu- monitoring system EMD was designed in cooperation with Schicke-electronics.
Werner “micro” Scholz of SFL GmbH did the computation work regarding aerodynamics and structural strength as well as the compilation of the certification documents , as he has always done since the days of the development of the EB28.
The new EB29DElektro made its successful maiden flight on 12th of November 2012 on the airstrip of Büchig near Ostheim vor der Rhön. We also offer this new glider in the Version EB29D, equipped with the well proven conventional powerplant based on the Solo-engine.

in a nutshell:
- Steigleistung je Akkufüllung 3500 bis 4000 m gesamt
- Starverhalten und Startstrecke vergleichbar der EB29
- optimized for best aerodynamics the edition-wing with new winglets makes higher cruise speeds as possible as superb slow speed capabilities
- variable wing span from 28.3 to 29.3 m allows accomodation to various weather conditions by a simple change of the wingtips
- minimized drag due to the smaller wetted surface enables improved performance in comparison to the two-seater EB28
- comfortable handling in flight and on the ground due to the electric gear retraction, the 2-diameter main bolts for better wing assembly, the large and sprung wheel, the generous cockpit with forward hinged canopy, the optimized and ergonomically placed systems for engine operation, flaps and control system
- type certification according to CS-22, the highest safety standard for glider construction
