Binder Aircraft Engine and Aircraft Construction:
A passion for aviation since 1978

Binder Flugmotorenbau in Ostheim

Oliver Binder, nephew of the company founder Walter Binder, is now leading Binder Motorenbau GmbH.

Oliver Binder has been an enthusiastic glider pilot since his youth. After completing his apprenticeship as a tool mechanic, he joined Binder in 1995. He became managing director in the early 2000s.

The company was founded in 1978 by Walter Binder, who had already started gliding in 1966.

The enthusiasm for gliding was and still is the driving force behind the constant search for technical and aeronautical improvements. This passion has brought Walter numerous competition successes and records.

The desire to be able to fly independently at any time led him to start designing retractable engines for self-launching and as a means of returning to the airfield.

He has been working on the development of engines since 1974. These have been and continue to be constantly developed, improved and adapted to the state of the art.

Walter founded the company in 1978 and in 1985 Binder Motorenbau GmbH moved into its current company headquarters on the outskirts of Ostheim.

Based on his flying experience and observations, he began working on performance optimization of the aircraft: profile modifications, winglets … up to motorization of the ASH 25.

The ASH 25 was modified in several steps (new outer wings, larger cockpit). The result: the ASH 25 EB28.

Walter Binder played a key role in the development and construction of the eta.

In the early 2000s, the decision was made to develop a completely own model, the two-seater EB28. The first flight took place in July 2006.

The EB28 was soon optimized for fast cruising with a modified outer wing – the EB28 edition.

Competition pilots repeatedly asked for a single-seater. In March 2009, Walter and Oliver Binder decided to develop the EB29, a single-seat fuselage with the edition wing. The maiden flight took place in September of the same year.

The success led to the idea of having the performance of the EB29 but being able to fly with two seats. The two-seater EB29D was created within one year and, in parallel, the EB29DElektro with electric propulsion.

In 2015, development of the R-wing began: A completely new wing with a new, performance-optimized airfoil, developed by Loek Boermans. The EB29 became the EB29R and the EB29D became the EB29DR.

So far, these have been followed by the new horizontal tailplane HLW2020, the steerable and retractable tailwheel, and various “smaller” improvements.

Today, we run the company with a team of ten experienced employees. Together, we focus on precision, innovation and a strong, proven connection to gliding-pilots.

Only a few kilometers from our company headquarters lies Büchig airfield in Ostheim. This is where we carry out our test and evaluation flights to ensure the highest quality and reliability for every aircraft.
